The ladies' Andrew Black, four-ball better ball competition was keenly contested on the full 18 holes, and the top four pairs go through and play in a knockout competition, writes Richard Jackman.

After a cautious start, Jane Dixon and Gilly Madill had a match-winning finishing burst as they surged to a winning score of 36 points.

By contrast, Ronny Turner and Sarah Kilcoyne had a brilliant front nine scoring 23 points but just fell away on the back nine ending up with 35 points.

With three pairs on 33 and only two pairs to qualify, Ros Cox and Felicity Horton stabilised enough on the back nine to come third on countback, while Anne Humphreys and Jane Andrews made it through to the playoff stages on countback, leaving Debbie Shinners and Ros Clemmans regretting a poorer back nine that kept them out of contention.
