The Lyme Regis seniors’ November stableford was well attended on Guy Fawkes Day, writes Richard Jackman.
And, as with firework displays, there were a few stars, some glittering performances and of course a few damp squibs!
The brightest was Paul Millard as he sparkled on a few holes and finished with a bang, scoring 22 points on the back nine, as he won Division One with the only score in the forties – 41.
Four people had 39 points, but, on countback, Jerry Garrett’s dazzling 12 points on the last four holes took silver on countback, while Julian Cox scored a steady stream of well taken points to take third spot.
Division Two was even closer as the top five all lit up the table, scoring 36 points each.
It was Gareth Vaughan who took the golden ‘reign’ as his gross birdie on the penultimate hole meant he won on countback.
Colin Evans and Danny Hopkins were both on fire, scoring 18 points on each nine, but just on countback it was Evans who took second spot.
The ladies had fun playing a yellow ball competition and the result was a close run thing as most teams returned their yellow ball. In the end the steady performance of
Linda Richmond, Susan Moore, and Ros Clemmans, won the day as it went down to countback over the last six holes.
Both top teams had some star performances and performers so Rosemary Shepherd, Sheila Claringbold, Marilyn Wilson, were no exception as they also came in with 67 points. Mary Golding won the nine-hole competition.
