At the weekend there was keen competition for the three ball reverse bowmaker competition, writes Richard Jackman.

Bob Taylor, Verdon Trott and John Yorke accumulated 85 points, scoring well on the par fives to win, just pushing Chris Brice, Craig McGown and Ian McGown into second place on countback while David Binns, Graham Pickard and Bob Shepherd acquitted themsleves well to finish third with 82.

The Septuagenarians Trophy was keenly contested as 10 players bettered par, and another 22 scored 30 points or more.

Emerging top of the contenders was Mike List who continued a recent run of form as he had a faltering start, but on the back nine never scored less that two points a hole in his 22 points, accelerating to a handsome 41 points winning total.

Second on countback was Nick Franks, also experiencing a good run, as he increased speed on the back nine to come in with 40 points ahead of David Hay in third, on countback.

Hay just lost out by the narrowest of margins as he too stormed to 21 on the back nine.

There was also an under 70s competition and young guns Ray Shinners and Graham Pickard fought it out, both scoring 40 plus points but in the end Shinners highest score of the day - 42 points - won the duel, as he went on a scoring spree on the back nine.

As it was maintenance week, the ladies played a non-qualifying stableford and it was truly wonderful to see Sheila Claringbold win with an emphatic performance that included three four-pointers in a back nine score of 24 points.

Cyndy Mudford had a storming back nine score of 24 which gained her a creditable second place on 41 points while Marilyn Wlson had a good steady performance to gain a worthy second place with 41 points.
