The men’s championship side were resting this week, but the rest of the league teams were in action, writes Paul Moffitt.

The ladies were most unlucky to only get four points away to Blandford where, despite drawing the game, they only had one winning rink.

The men’s A team were similarly unlucky in their game against Portland BO where, despite winning on two rinks, lost the game overall. At time of going to press no result cards were available for the B team’s game against Greenhill C.

Saturday saw the annual Lady Captain’s day, where invited teams from other clubs compete against ladies from Lyme.

This year Axminster, Seaton, Chard and Bridport supplied the opposition but it was a Lyme team that took the honours, in what was a foreshortened game brought to an early close because of torrential rain. The ladies then enjoyed a ‘high’ tea of sandwiches, cakes, and scones jam and cream. They were suitably waited upon by gentlemen of the Club dressed in shirts and bowties- not to mention black trousers as well!

Chris Barber,Lady Captain, duly thanked all those who had helped her on the day and throughout the season. She was presented with a potted orchid and gardening vouchers by the ladies of the Club in recognition of all the hard work she had put in to keep the ladies section ticking over.

On the friendly front, the men managed to defeat the old enemy ‘Bridport’ on their own patch, but the ladies were not so fortunate with their game against Chardstock. Sunday saw the Club entertaining Alexandra Bowls Club from Bath. This entailed a quick turn around of the rinks after the morning sessions in order to accommodate eight rinks, well done Club Captain, John Beadsley. A good game was enjoyed by all, especially Lyme as they had one of their biggest wins on record.
