Axminster Bowls Club completed another indoor season with their traditional Finals Day meeting, writes David Harris.

Two people dominated the Finals Day and they were Malcolm Denslow and Margaret Crompton, who both collected three trophies.

Malcolm and Margaret teamed up to win the Ladies Invitation, defeating Jan Kesterton and Mike Henneghan and Malcolm also won the Men’s Singles title, leaving Frank Bridge as runner-up and he was a winner in the men’s pairs when in which he and Alfie Day defeated Tony Cable and David Harris. Malcolm also picked up a runners-up trophy after losing to Andy Spiller in the David Crompton Vase final.

Margaret also won the Ladies Singles title, defeating Sue Bond and she teamed up with Eve Cole to win the ladies pairs, beating Valerie Mellor and Phillipa White in the final.

In the other trophy finals, Alan Nabbaro won the Non-Winners Cup with Gill Campbell the runner-up and, in the Open Pairs, Steven Apsey and James Windsor were the winners with Doug Looskan and Don Meylan, the runners-up.

Many thanks are due to Andy Spiller for organising this event throughout the indoor season.
