Mayo at the double

A resounding success for Honiton, playing at home to Torbay, this past weekend, writes Ann Reed.
Generally this was a somewhat muddled game - on the part of the visitors in particular - with too many players trying to fight for the same ball.
Although both teams were playing hard from the opening whistle it was in the sixth minute of the game that the home team’s Becky Hammett decisively put the ball over the line.
Not to be deterred, the visitors soon responded with an equaliser but captain Sophie George added her first goal (from a penalty corner pass) to take her side into the lead.
As the second half started, the home side went into ‘determined attack mode’ and, over the 35 minutes, managed to score three more goals. Sophie George got the first, Dawn Mayo got the second after a protracted melée in front of the visitors’ goalmouth and went on to score the final goal shortly before the final whistle.
Practices continue to be held on Tuesday evenings at Cullompton Sports Centre: 7 pm – 8.30 pm. Contact details available at www.wcwhi.co.uk/Public/Clubs.php
