Medals galore for Chard swimming club swimmers at latest meetings

Chard Swimming Club competed in their final Open Meets of 2013 over the last two weekends at the Yeovil Christmas Meet held over two days at Millfield, the West Dorset Meet held at Dorchester and the Regional short course Championships at Millfield writes Hannah Pullinger.

The Yeovil Meet saw seventeen swimmers aged between nine and 17 taking part, notching up some great performances, gaining fifteen top three medal positions; eight golds, five silvers and two bronze. Six regional qualifying times and an amazing thirty-four county times were also achieved over the two days between the swimmers. New club records were also set by Melissa Hanson, 15, 400m freestyle, and Henry Taswell, 12, 50 and 200m backstroke.

Golds were claimed by Ben Fowler, 17, 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle, Melissa Hanson, 15, 100m backstroke, 400m freestyle, and Henry Taswell, 12, 50 and 200m backstroke, 50 and 100m butterfly.

Silvers were won by Melissa Hanson, 15, 400m Individual Medley, 200m freestyle, Lewis Pearson, 14, 400m freestyle, and Henry Taswell, 12, 50 and 100m freestyle.

Bronze medals were bagged by Lewis Pearson, 14, 200m backstroke and Leo Kindred, 12, 100m breaststroke.

The West Dorset Meet had eighteen swimmers competing, gaining twenty nine top three medal positions! There were eleven golds, eight silvers and ten bronzes, with four regional times achieved and twenty six county qualifying times achieved.

Golds went to Ollie Bilbie, 15, 50 and 100m freestyle, 50 and 100m backstroke, Jake Hallam, 17, 100m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, Xanthe Dyer, 11, 100m breaststroke, Baylei Callow, 11, 50m butterfly, Abi Greenslade 9, 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, Milie Downes, 9, 50m breaststroke,

Silvers were won by Ollie Bilbie 50m butterfly, Simon Davis, 12, 100m butterfly, Joss Copeman, 11, 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, Xanthe Dyer 100m freestyle, Megan Herbert, 11, 50m butterfly, Abi Greenslade 100m Individual Medley and Cole Dickinson, 9, 50m butterfly.

Bronzes went to Simon Davis 100m Individual Medley, Joss Copeman 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 50m backstroke, Baylei Callow 50 and 100m freestyle, Xanthe Dyer 50m butterfly, 100m Individual Medley, Cole Dickinson 50m backstroke, 100m Individual Medley.

Eight swimmers qualified and entered the regional short course championships at Millfield - Hannah Pullinger, 17, Ben Fowler, 17, Tessa Down, 16, Abi Dare, 16, Lauren Harrison, 16, Melissa Hanson, 15, Ollie Bilbie, 15, and Jamie Pullinger, 15, with Melissa Hanson improving on the Club Record in the 400m freestyle she set the previous weekend at Yeovil.
