Thirty Chard swimmers aged nine-17 competed at Exeter Open Meet this weekend with some excellent results. The swimmers won an amazing 50 gold, silver and bronze medals between them and amassed enough points for the club to take home the Top Visiting Club Award writes Hannah Pullinger.

This was the last weekend younger swimmers were able to achieve the qualifying times for entry into the Regional Age Group competition next month. In the younger age groups Oliver Bilbie,14 and Lewis Pearson 12 achieved their first ever South West Qualifying Time in 100m backstroke. Melissa Hanson 14, achieved this year’s 100m backstroke time, and Jamie Pullinger 13, also achieved the 100m backstroke time to add to his 200m time already achieved. Elisha Hawkins 12, obtained qualifying times previously achieved in 200m and 100m breaststroke, totalling five qualifying times achieved this season.

There was some outstanding swimming and many personal best times. Gold medals were won by: Abi Dare 15, 200 individual medley, 100m backstroke, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly, Tessa Down 15, 50 and 100m breaststroke, Elisha Hawkins 12, 100m and 200m breaststroke, Tamsin Edge 11, 100m breaststroke, Jake Hallam 16, 100m breaststroke, Jay Kindred 14, 50m breaststroke, Oliver Bilbie 14, 100m backstroke, Lewis Pearson 12, 100 and 200m freestyle and 50m butterfly.

Silver medals went to: Hannah Pullinger 16, 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke, Abi Dare 15, 50m breaststroke, Tessa Down 15 50 and 100m backstroke, 50m freestyle, Billie-Jo Dance 15, 400m freestyle, Daniella Edge 13, 100m butterfly, Elisha Hawkins 12, 50m breaststroke, Tamsin Edge 11, 200m breaststroke, Jess Patch 10, 50m breaststroke.

Ben Fowler, 16 100m backstroke, Joe Spurway 14, 100m backstroke, Oliver Bilbie 14, 100m freestyle, Nathan Roberts 14, 50m backstroke, Iain Ross 12, 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke, Lewis Pearson 12, 400m freestyle and 100m backstroke

Bronze medals went to: Hannah Pullinger 16, 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle, Abi Dare 15, 100m butterfly, 50 and 100m freestyle, Billie-Jo Dance 15, 50m butterfly, Melissa Hanson 14 100m backstroke, Hope Horsfield 13, 50m butterfly, Susan Ross 12, 200m butterfly and 200m freestyle, Elisha Hawkins 12, 400m freestyle, Luke van den Barselaar 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly, Ben Fowler 16, 200m backstroke, Joe Spurway 14, 400m freestyle, Jay Kindred 14, 100m breaststroke, Iain Ross 12, 200m freestyle, 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley, Lewis Pearson 12, 50m freestyle, Ryan Adair 11, 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke.

Other swimmers taking part at Exeter included Dan Andrews, Paul Harrison, Henry Taswell, Mollie Simpson, and Florence Swan.
