In the Dorset Ladies County Golf Association championship played at Came Down, Melissa McMahon became the Dorset County champion, writes Richard Jackman.
Starting off with 36 holes on Friday, Mel warmed up to qualify for the knock-out stages, and on Saturday, won through to the semi-finals which were played on Monday morning.
In those semi-finals Mel didn’t hang about, getting birdies on the first five holes, the basis for a convincing six-and-five win.
In the afternoon final Mel played Jane Southcombe and this was a closer game. Jane’s short game and putting were good, but Mel’s powerful hitting and steady play allowed her to forge ahead and, at two holes up on the dogleg 16th Mel closed the game out, wining three-and-two to lift the Huleatt Cup as county champion for the second year running.
