Millwey Rise make County Cup progress with Pinhoe victory Millwey Rise were 5-1 winners when they visited Pinhoe Reserves in the first round of the Devon Intermediate Cup, writes Dick Sturch.
Millwey began the game in a disjointed fashion and it came as little surprise when the Pinhoe forwards latched on to some weak defending to go one up in the 15th minute. This was just the spur Millwey needed to get their game into gear!
Tyler Warren started the ball rolling with a shot from outside the penalty area that found the corner of the Pinhoe net. This was quickly followed by a Nathan Wormseley effort, unfortunately adjudged to be offside. The home side’s glovesman then produced an excellent save to deny Mark Pike, but he was later thwarted by a headed goal from Levi Hoole and then Pike eventually getting on the score sheet in the final minutes of the first half to put Millwey 3-1 ahead at the break.
After the re-start Hoole increased Millwey’s lead and then Alex Rocket, coming on as a substitute, finished the scoring with a blistering strike that gave the goalkeeper no chance.
Millwey ran out worthy winners after their shaky start, in no small way boosted by a solid back four well marshalled by Mike Knight. Hoole was a constant threat to the home side`s defence ably supported by Nathan Wormseley.

After the previous week’s 5-4 win at Kentisbeare in the Geary Cup Millwey Rise Reserves met the same opposition, this time in a Fresha League Division Nine encounter.
However, this time the Mid Devon side exacted revenge with a 4-2 success.

Gary Venn and James Rocket got their names on the score sheet of what turned out to be a very mediocre effort after the result seven days before.
On Saturday (September 19) the first team are back in Exeter when they play at Stoke Hill while the Reserves welcome Honiton Town 3rds to Cloakham Lawns. Both games kick-off at 3pm.
