The final Saturday of February was a good one for both Millwey Rise teams, writes Dick Sturch.

The first team took centre stage with a 2-0 win in the Arthur Gage Cup at Lyme Bantams.

In an entertaining game which flowed from end to end, chances fell to both sides. Shane Featherstone shaved the home sides upright with a well taken free-kick and, at the other end, Nathan Hoole in the Millwey goal made an outstanding last ditch save to keep the score even.

Five minutes before the break Millwey were awarded a corner and Shane Featherstone climbed high to open the scoring with a great header. Three minutes later, an intelligent through-ball by Danny Larcombe provided Terry Emmett the opportunity to slot the ball past the Bantams keeper and extend the visitors lead.

The second half saw Millwey being forced back to defend their lead and so creating few attempts on the home goal. Mark Pike did manage a shot from an acute angle, but saw the ball flash just past the far post. The Bantams began a concerted attack on the Millwey goal, but a determined back four of Matt and Hayden Lewis with Stuart King and Danny Larcombe held them at bay until the final whistle. Shane Featherstone worked hard in midfield, but all in all this was an excellent team effort.

Meanwhile, the clubs second team recorded an outstanding 7-0 away win at Merriot Dynamos to progress into the next round of the Bill Bailey Cup.

This coming Saturday (March 7) the senior side travel to Luso - Chard (2.30pm) and the second team host Merriot Dynamos at Cloakham Lawns (2.30pm).
