Millwey Rise win well over Exwick Villa

Millwey Rise continued their early season winning ways with an emphatic 5-0 home success over Exwick Villa, writes Dick Sturch.

From the start Millwey were on the front foot, continually piercing the visitors defence but without being able to put the finishing touch to their superiority until Mark Pike eventually opened the Exwick defence in the 22nd minute to score. He followed this a couple of minutes later with a second goal. Millwey`s continual pressure was eventually rewarded in the 42nd minute with a third goal, just reward for the games outstanding player, Nathan Wormesley.

The second half was much the same with the home side mounting attack after attack only to be thwarted, Levi Hoole in particular, by some outstanding saves from the Exwick goalie. One save in particular, from an effort by Hoole, a worthy contender for ‘save of the season’.

Although replicated a few minutes later by Millwey`s keeper Nathan Hoole to to deny the visitors a consolation goal!

After Pike missed the opportunity of a wide open goal to clinch his hat-trick, Stuart King, making a welcome return after injury, blasted a well taken volley into the roof of the net. The final goal came from substitute Dave Bridges with a well directed shot to emphasise the home sides overall superiority and a dream start to the first season in their new league.

This Saturday (September 5), Millwey 1st X1 welcome East Budleigh to Cloakham Lawns in the Football Express Cup (2.30pm) and the Reserve team visit Kentisbeare 2nds in the Geary Cup (2.30pm).
