Millwey Rise Reserves suffered a match day to forget as they were beaten 5-3 at home by Honiton Town thirds in a Macron League Division Eight game, writes Dick Sturch.

The thing that did for the home side – in a game of eight goals – was their poor finishing, for they missed several good chances during the contest ands that cost the side dear.

Mark Pike got a first half goal for Millwey, but the visitors went into the break leading 3-1. The second half saw a great improvement from the home side, especially Sam Wadden, and they got the ball in the net twice from strikes by Danny Larcombe and Pike.

Unfortunately, Honiton scored a further two goals to finish the match as the 5-2 winners.

If ever game proved the old footballing adage of ‘goals wins matches’, then this was the one! Quite simply, in an entertaining contest, Millwey did not put away their chances and Honiton Town did!

On Saturday (February 24) Millwey Rise are in Geary Cup action when they host Division Seven side HT Dons in the Geary Cup. The kick-off at Cloakham Lawns is 2pm.
