More than 140 entries have been received for the South Devon Point to Point at Ideford Arch this Sunday (Jan 30) with the Totnes and Bridgetown Race Co Ltd Mixed Open the highlight on the six race card.

Twenty entries have been received with plenty of winners among them. They include the lightly raced Commander Vic who won two good races last season before fading to nothing in the Lady Dudley Cup, Openditch who may improve on his second at Chaddesley Corbett earlier this month, hunterchase winner Joaaci who makes his seasonal reappearance and Prince De Bersy who concluded the 2010 season with a win at Umberleigh.

Racing is preceded by two pony races - 11am and 11.30am and the point to point is at noon with the confined race first off. Entries include Bafaluto who can continue his upward progress, Big Daves Legend who returns to action after a long lay off, the consistent Deloughtane who ran well a couple of weeks ago to finish fourth in a good ladies’ open race and Quaddick Lake who is sure to improve for his run at Black Forest Lodge where he was fourth in a 15-runner men’s open, beaten just over four and a half lengths.

Novice riders races have proved exceptionally competitive this season and with 19 entries, Sunday’s race looks another cracking contest. Here’s Johnny was a decent horse under Rules for Victor Dartnall and could prove a safe conveyance for his young pilot and Le Forezien beat Fully Loaded at Bratton Down in May last year and could go well.

The open maiden run over two and a half miles has 37 entries and the betting is the best clue however Great Appeal improved vastly on last year’s form when he finished third at Black Forest Lodge earlier this month and the well bred Moonchrome could go well on his seasonal debut.

Restricted entries include the consistent Turning Tide and Son Of Flame who may make amends for unseating his rider at the Silverton meeting earlier this month when going well at the time.

Concluding the card is an open maiden race with the betting once again likely to provide the best clues.

The course is situated off A380 on Chudleigh intersection. Entrance is 20 per car and 10 per car and one driver.
