Upottery 2nds bounced back from their first defeat of the season just seven says before when they recorded a convincing 5-0 Glebe Park win over Ipplepen Athletic Reserves to ease their way into the next round of the Devon Intermediate Cup.

Early goals from Brad Morris and William Stevens gave the villagers the perfect start and, just before the break, when Olly Cramer was upended in the area, Morris slammed home to the spot kick to see the home side into the break with a 3-0 lead.

Early in the second half a superbly flighted corner from Ashley Munt was headed home by Brett Sellick.

The final goal of the game was fashioned by substitutes Lewis Arscott and Daniel Ingram, the former creating the chance and the latter rifling it home.

A terrific last minute goal line clearance by Gavin Richards ensured that Upottery secured a clean sheet success.

Man of the match honours were awarded by the referee to Lewis Arscott, and the supporters to Brett Sellick.

Upottery boss Alex McCreadie-Taylor said: “That is without doubt the best I have seen us play this season. It was also not lost on me that it was the first time this campaign that we had 14 players, and, with more returning to the squad this coming week, I am clearly facing some selection headaches!”

He continued: “Having seen the level we reached in the cup win I have to confess to feeling a lot more confident than I have been for a while.

“Last Saturday we were simply awful, but to see the way that the players first picked themselves up and then delivered such a quality show against Ipplepen is very rewarding.

“I’d have to say that, although it is of course so good that we scored five goals, and scored as they were from all areas, I must give credit to our back line who managed to deal with the visiting threat to deservedly rack up another clean sheet.”
