Colyton 2, Honiton Harriers 3 Honiton Harriers Under-9s were good value for their win in an entertaining East Devon derby.

Harriers started brightly in what were poor conditions owing to the weather.

The opening goal arrived when Isaac Lidster found new signing Jonny Glover whose shot was well saved by the keeper, but Mason Doble was on hand to put in the rebound. The lead was doubled by Harry Smith with Jack Bevan accredited with the assist.

After the break the home side halved the deficit, but with Liam Osborne and Jack Cowley playing well at the back Honiton denied the hosts any further opportunities.

With five minutes remaining goalkeeper Jack Cowley picked up a hand injury and swapped places with Isaac Lidster. Cowley moved into a midfield berth and scored the Harriers third goal after some good approach play involving Mason Doble. Colyton netted their second with the last kick of the contest.

The two sides then contested a friendly match which Harriers won 5-3.

Colyton took an early lead, but Honiton got back level when Jack Bevan’s shot was saved by the keeper and Jack Cowley was on hand to put the rebound away from a tight angle. A Jonny Glover goal, marking his debut for the club, gave Harriers the lead. It was soon 3-1 after the move of the match. A slick sequence of passing involving Harry Smith, Mason Doble and Jack Cowley ended with Liam Osborne scoring from close range.

Colyton came back strongly with two well worked goals to level things up at 3-3, but Honiton were not to be denied and swiftly regained the lead when young Doble broke through the middle of the pitch and slotted the ball home. Liam Osborne made a timely block to deny the hosts before Jack Cowley scored his third goal of the day to complete the scoring.

New signing Jonny Glover landed the Man of the Match award. The coaches would like to thank the usual superb turn out of family support, all of whom got a good soaking in the dreadful weather!
