Archant

The only event to take place last week was the new Honiton Golf Club Captains’ Drive-in, for which, fortunately, the weather relented, writes Ann Desmoulin.

On a crisp frosty morning, all those able to turn out for a four-ball better ball meeting were rewarded with some very competitive golf.

A shotgun start enabled all players to finish at the same time so that they could witness the inauguration of the new club captain Richard Beard, who was required to drive off the 18th tee, which he did with aplomb.

He was joined in this endeavour by new lady captain Liz Rogers, junior captain Haydon McCance and seniors’ captain John Pawley.

Afterwards, Richard provided a very generous lunch for all those who attended.

Luncheon was followed by a most enjoyable afternoon.
