Newton first O65 in Exmoor Stagger

Four AVR’s took part in this year’s Exmoor Stagger, writes Dave Mutter.
This year the organisers decided to reverse the loop up to Dunkery Beacon doing the longer route up to the top as an experiment.
Graham Newton decided to use this race as a warm-up for the New York Marathon and he’s going to have a good one if this was anything to go by.
Graham came home as the leading AVR in 2:25:30 taking the over 65 title in the process!
Eleanor Wood was next home in 2:34:41 taking the Female V55 title; amazingly this was exactly the same time to the second as last year.
Geoff Woodward had a good run coming home in 2:51:30. Steve Reynolds had a battle with second claimer Richard Dodge up to Dunkery, but managed to pull away down the other side.
He finished in 2:58:30 with Richard just getting in under three hours. Tea and cake helped revive the weary crew before the journey home.
Meanwhile, AVR athlete Carol Austin gave the Great West Run in Exeter a miss and instead went to her old stomping ground for the Great Birmingham Half Marathon.
Despite a lack of training, she finished 2340th, 11th W50 in 1:45:21.
