Alas, the slump continues at Lyme Regis BC.

Alas, the slump continues. No points for the men's A and B teams again this week, whilst the championship side only managed two points.

The ladies had a week off from league competition, so nothing to report there, and a busy week on the friendly front was marred by the 'summer weather'!

Perhaps the highlight of the week was a Lyme team winning best rink, and the cup, in the annual Lady Captain's Day.

Kay Smith, Mo Wheeler, Judith Moffitt and Jill Wells beat off six other Lyme teams as well as teams from: Seaton; Bridport; Chard; Dorchester; Westlands; Chardstock and Axminster to lift the trophy. The winning visiting rink was the team from Seaton.

Team W2 have won through to the play-off stage of the Percy Baker, winning 4-2 against Wellworthy which keeps them at the top of the league, Dorchester kindly going down at Greenhill!

Friendlies: The game at Sidmouth and the match against Southall and Dist. Tourists were both abandoned because of torrential rain. Well,it is July!

Lyme 96, South Petherton 118: S Dowling, S Applebee, C Vere, John Wells 18-17; F Marsh, T Coldrick, Jill Wells, Jean Perry 7-27; D Read, V Cozens, J Beadsley, E Skeemer 19-16; H Dowling, B Collier, E Rodgers, R Edwards 18-27; T Payne, T Poyner, P Stephens, H Keep 16-17; K Faragher, J Beavis, L Street, G Cozens 18-24.

Judging by the state of these score cards, a little precipitation was enjoyed during this game!

Lyme 134, Den Teignmouth 110: A Rattenbury, T Poyner, J Parsons, P Moffitt 15-19; J Beavis, M Wheeler, N Benson, G Cozens 15-22; S Dowling, K Gardiner, R Winterborne, Chris Barber 22-9; T Coldrick, S Applebee, J Irwin, Chas Barber 23-11; T Payne, J York, B Parsons, R Edwards 17-19; D Read, J Moffitt, V Cozens, John Wells 15-17; H Dowling, B Stephens, Jill Wells, E Skeemer 27-13.

The game against Teignmouth is one of the club's rare coach trips down to the South Devon coast. This is an annual fixture which is eagerly anticipated by members. It is a chance to dip your toes in the sea, pig-out at a hostelry of your choice, enjoy a game of bowls followed by a sing song on the way home. Music supplied by Roy and his accordian.

On a day of sunshine and showers this year, I cannot recall anyone dipping their toes in the sea!
