The final week of the Honiton Netball League summer season saw the runners-up spot decided, writes Graham Ingram.

Both OPG and Hi Q needed to win and the team with the best goal difference would finish in second place.

Hi Q found it tough going against Howden Hawks who, with Sue Merrett playing well, held the lead through to the third quarter, starting the final period 50-44 in front. In the final period Bev Parris pulled Hi Q back into the game and, with a final flourish, they finished victors by 55-53.

However, this was not enough to stop OPG who, with Hannah Lee playing well had turned their opening deficit into a 38-34 half-time lead.

Despite fine play from Jenny Bryant for JD they could not stem the attacking power of OPG who finished victors by 73-39 to seal the runners-up spot.

This defeat for JD meant they were one of three teams ending the season on 18 points. Both OPG and Hi Q finished with superior goal differences to table toppers Flamingos, so if OPG and Hi Q had not drawn earlier in the season a win for either of them would have ensured the title!

Uplowman finished their season with a 55-46 victory over Pixies thanks to a fine performance from Zoey Beresford.

Pixies again battled well and had another fine performance from Sara Green, but the end the campaign without a win.

Signs South West closed their season with a 67-47 victory over Otter Valley Dairy. Debbie Wheeler for SSW and Roseanne Dyer for the Dairy team, were the games stand-out players.

Next week is the AGM, followed by a break and then netball again in September. Enjoy the summer!
