In Division One Otters started where they ended the last winter season with a victory over newly promoted JD Tyres, who started their first division campaign with the toughest of fixtures, against the defending champions, writes Graham Ingram.

The first quarter had started brightly with Otters just edging ahead by 9-5. In the second quarter they took control and with Helen Wright playing well they powered to a 29-7 lead. JD, with Sam Brunskill doing well could just not find a way back and Otters continued to dominate winning the game by 49-13.

The second game in this division saw Hi Q up against summer champions Uplowman. At quarter time Uplowman were 11-10 ahead, but by half way Hi Q were in front by 22-21.

The game was nip and tuck with Jaz Chester playing well for Hi Q and Vicky Channings the Uplowman star. In the third period Uplowman opened up a two goal lead at 30-28, only for Hi Q to bounce back to level the game at 34-34.

In Division Two both relegated teams found themselves in action with Signs South West playing Blackdown Ladies and Sidmouth Toucans up against Otter Valley.

With Chistina Oyo back in fine form at centre the SSW were soon in control, and although Louise Crabb worked hard for Blackdown they could never get back into the game after they went 10-1 behind in the first quarter. From then on Signs scored consistently to finish victors by 38-9.

Last winter Otter Valley just missed out on promotion, to Toucans, and tonight they were up against one another! Toucans just edged in front to lead 8-7 at half way, before pulling away in the important third period to lead by 17-10. The final quarter was again goal for goal with Toucans winning by 24-16.

Louise Neilson was the Sidmouth player of the match whilst Catherine Phillips took the plaudits for Otter Valley.
