The recent Tae Kwon-Do grading in Honiton was one of the largest in recent years, with over 100 students from across the area taking part and the grading having to start earlier than normal in order to fit everyone in.

Almost half of these came from the Target TAGB group of schools led by instructors Gerry Waugh (Axminster, Charmouth, Sidmouth) and Darren Sainsbury (Colyton).

It was a very successful grading, with 18 passes each from Sidmouth and Colyton, plus five from Charmouth and three from Axminster.

Thirteen year old Molly McAndrew, from Sidmouth, achieved her third A-pass in a row, and was joined by blue belt Jamie Smith, 10, also from Sidmouth, who achieved an A-pass and grading award as a senior grade.

Maisie Bellworthy, from Charmouth, also achieved an A-pass and grading award after an excellent performance. Commendable Plus passes were awarded to Sebastian Downham and Michael Zhang of Sidmouth on their first ever gradings.

Colyton student Peter Loud, 14, who lives in Seaton and attends Axe Valley Community College, has spent almost half his life training in tae kwon-do and was presented with his black belt certificate by examiner and TAGB vice-chairman Master Michael Dew, 8th Dan.

Gerry Waugh has recently opened a new school in Bridport and hopes to see some of his new students there taking part in the next grading in February 2012.
