The county president visited Honiton on Tuesday this week, bringing six rinks to play against a side made up from clubs playing in the Exeter & District Over 60s League.

This time his side were the underdogs with the Over 60s' side winning by 123 shots to 94.

The top rink for the over 60s was John Ritchie, Ken Clarke, Ken Large and George Selvey from the Honiton club with a score of 27-9.

On Wednesday, Jean Mitchell and Rita Barwick won the section final of the County Ladies Over 70s Pairs competition to take them to the quarter/semi finals at Bovey Tracy next today (Wednesday). They have already beaten Jean Brimson and Christa Turner, from Sidmouth -last years winners - so hopes now go on for them to bring the trophy back to Honiton.

Thursday saw a touring side from Dunstable, Bedfordshire, visit Honiton with six very strong rinks. This side had beaten three other Devon clubs, but their winning spree came to an end at Streamers Meadow when Honiton won 122-110.

Top rink was Jean Mitchell, Ted Cox, Sid Hattam and Dennis Hillyear at 27-14.

On Frida,y four mixed rinks came from Axminster and, unfortunately, all four were beaten. Our one game wonder came out of the closet and won top rink. Joan Heard, who was playing in her first friendly match of the season steered her rink of Ken Underdown, Lindsay Crosthwaite and Ted Cox to a large 36-11 win.

On Saturday, 16 ladies arrived to play in a competition for the Betty Dibble Plate. In this game, drawn pairs play four ends on one rink. The winners move up one rink and all play another four ends, and so on. The runners-up, with plus-9 shots, were Berry Maynard and Maureen Parsons, and the winners, with plus 18 shots, were Jenny Wilde and Chris Nex.

The hopes of improvement for the Over 60s League 'B' team were dashed this Wednesday when they went away to Madeira, the top team in Division 3.

Ken Clarke, Bill Sheerman and Mike Critchley managed to draw on their rink but the other rink went down by nine shots. So, only one point from eight there; this is not going to help their relegation prospects.

The 'A' team did well at home to Dunkeswell taking six of the eight points.

Top rink was Fred Dart, Doug Hirons and John Lyon with 25-5.

The 'C' team forced a draw and took four points at home to Exonia winning one rink by six and losing the other by six. The winning rink was Tony Tooley, Wally Heard and George Selvey.

The week finished well with a trip for six triples to Tiverton Borough. It was a super afternoon out, the green played well and the company was excellent.

Honiton finished winners at 109-88. Our top rink was Roger Willcocks, Maureen Parsons and Mike Critchley with 18-7.
