Mansell’s Raceway at Dunkeswell has swapped petrol power for pedal power. Monday evenings has seen the kart track open its gates to local cyclists who have been taking part in race training sessions organised and run by British Cycling’s South West Regional Events Officer, Andy Parker.
With nearly 1 km of flat, smooth tarmac, no cars and no potholes, the kart circuit makes a perfect venue for cycle racing. There are plenty of twists, turns and long straights that make for exciting and challenging riding.
Andy, who negotiated the use of the venue and provides the coaching, along with Jake Durant, said “The sessions are targeted at riders interested in racing and aims to provide an introduction to cycle sport. They focus on group riding, cornering, positioning and tactics.”
Keen local cyclist Glenn Morgan said “We’re very lucky to have access to such a great facility and I really hope it will it will continue. I’ve attended the first two sessions, everyone has been very welcoming and Andy and Jake are very knowledgeable. It’s such good fun I can’t wait for the next one.”
The next session will take place on Monday, June 6, at 6:30pm. Anyone interested in racing is welcome to attend. To find out more please call Andrew Parker on 0794 030 2224 or email andrewparker@britishcycling.org.uk
