Last week’s floods caused Axe Valley Pedallers’ regular Wednesday cyclists to pause for a moment of doubt before plunging into water which had already caused cars and land rovers to be abandoned near Whitford.
Water came up over the wheel hubs and feet were fully submerged, but bicycles remained upright and potholes were thankfully avoided as the riders pressed on regardless to their objective of coffee at the Axminster Arts Caf.
The flooded Axe Valley was at its most picturesque for a truly unforgettable ride, although it did prove necessary to take the signposted diversionary route for the Stopline cycle path under the Axminster bypass, as the water was at chest height.
Snorkels are under consideration for future rides. ?Details of rides at Axevalleypedallers.org
