The new football season is just six weeks away, with the players, coaching staff and officials from Axminster Town and Honiton Town already preparing for a hectic campaign.
Starting with the Walter C Parson League Cup in Peninsula football, Axminster face a journey into the unknown when they take on newly-promoted Ottery St Mary in the first round, while Honiton have a bye.
If the Tigers can tame the Otters, the second round will bring a home tie against Cornwall club St Dennis, who were 14th in Peninsula West when last season was curtailed. Honiton also have a home draw, with Plymouth Marjon the visitors on October 16.
The testing start for Axminster is mirrored in the league schedule, with Newton Abbot Spurs the visitors to Tiger Way on August 7 - Spurs recorded a 4-1 victory at Axminster last September.
Honiton begin with a trip to Elmore on August 11 and an opponent that beat the Hippos 2-1, home and away, last term.
Axminster’s first midweek game, on August 10, will be at home to Cullompton Rangers, a repeat of the final fixture played at Tiger Way before the recent lockdown.
In that game on a soggy Boxing Day, Tony Pinder scored twice against his former club and Dec Cornish was also on target in a 3-2 win for the Tigers.
Axminster travel to Dartmouth for their opening away game, a club that beat the Tigers 2-1 on the opening day of last season.
On the same day, August 18, Honiton make the trip to Stoke Gabriel, who have merged with Torbay Police over the summer, and Stoke obviously looking for massive improvements after conceding a ludicrous 207 goals in 18 fixtures last year.
Axminster have a Tuesday night derby at Sidmouth on August 17, while the Hippos face a Friday night fixture at Bovey Tracey on August 20. Axminster host Torrington the next day.
It is then all about the big one, Honiton welcome Axminster on Tuesday, August 24 for a mouthwatering local derby – it is going to be a cracking return to proper football.
