IT HAS BEEN A better week for the men in the league.

IT HAS?BEEN?A better week for the men in the league. The championship side took eight points from Bridport, thus securing their place in this league for next season.

The A team were unfortunate not to secure all 10 points against Weymouth Melcombe Regis, but lost out by a single shot in two of the games. Still, six points keeps Lyme heading in the right direction. The B team struggled again at Portland Vic, only coming home with two points. Could it be that a club of this size is going to find it difficult to keep two teams in Division One? The only other club, to my knowledge, that manages to do this is Wellworthy.

The ladies had all their league action washed out this week, but agreed to share the points with Sherborne rather than reschedule the fixture.

A team from Lyme took part in the Seaton Club's Perham Cup and came away with the trophy. Well done to Bob Turpin, Phil Stephens, Brian Downes and Alan Preece. The last time Lyme won this cup was back in 1983, so it was about time it came home again. Looking at the Lyme team that won this cup back in the early seventies, I noticed one C Mercer as being one of the recipients!

The annual event, that is the Pelman Cup, was held at the Club this weekend. Some 30 members took part in this three wood knockout competition. Paul Pomeroy was victorious in winning this particular trophy for the seventh time, despite having a few nervous moments along the way.

Only two friendlies were played this week, the ladies played triples at Chardstock and the Club entertained a touring side from Charlbury.
