Alex Todd took it easy on Saturday for a change, letting Garry Perratt and Matt Clist do their thing by running Dartmoor from top to bottom, writes Dave Mutter.

They began at the northernmost gate onto the moor at Tor Down near Okehampton and finished 29 miles and four hours 48 minutes later at the southernmost gate near Ivybridge.

They destroyed the previous best time (set by Garry and Patrick) by an hour and a half, but this wasn’t due so much to running faster as to some better route choice and much less jollying around!

The first twenty-something miles were fantastic but the last half dozen down a stony old tram line were not pleasant with tired feet and little cushioning on their shoes.
