Honiton Golf Club saw a couple of men’s finals played last week, writes Jill Rogers.

They were both singles’ match play in competitions that had started back in June.

There was a most apt conclusion to the first – this the Phillips Cup for handicaps of nought to 16 – and won by Ben Phillips who defeated James Spiller is a closely fought final.

Next up was the Mansfield Cup for handicaps 16 to 28 and, not wanting to outdone by his son Ben, Julian Phillips defeated Roger Matthews in the final.

A great week them for the Phillips family who will be presented with their trophies at the club’s annual presentation night next month.
