Pixies top Honiton Netball Summer League

PUBLISHED: 22:49 16 April 2014

Having just back to playing after bad weather disruption the final games of the Honiton Netball Summer League were played before the Easter break, writes Graham Ingram.

Pixies made it three wins in three when they triumphed over a six-player Tip Top Trees. With Sara Benson playing well Pixies made the most of their player advantage and, although Jenny Robinson worked tirelessly for the Trees, Pixies had the lead at 53-44 by half-way and held on to win by 66-56.

This win put Pixies in the top spot over the Easter period. After their opening day defeat OPG have bounced back and took their second win in a row to climb in to second place. They met Hi Q in what proved to be a close encounter. With Sadie Moran in fine form, Hi Q held the lead at half way by 27-19, but with Cara Monaghan playing well for OPG, it was all square at 31-31 going in to the final period. OPG they moved ahead to win by 39-34. JD Tyres were big climbers by virtue of their close 57-53 win against Howden Hawks, jumping from the bottom up to seventh place. With Zoe Dunn doing well at centre for Hawks they held the lead at halfway by 45-43. In the third quarter JD stepped up a gear and with Katie White playing a good game at WA they moved in front to end the game victorious.

Sidmouth Toucans have had a tough start to the season and they slipped to a third defeat in as many games, this time at the hands of Signs South West. SSW had clawed back their deficit by the end of the first quarter and they crept in front 42-40 at half way before opening up a gap in the third period to start the final session 52-43 in front. With Debbie Wheeler doing well at centre Signs ran out 61-50 winners despite good work from Danni Walters for Sidmouth.
