Ellis Bee and Ryan Edgecombe both enjoyed success at the opening round of the Dunkeswell Kart Racing Club’s 2001 Championship with both drivers making it on to the podium in their individual classes.

Ellis, 17, a student at Axe Valley Community College, had an outstanding meeting in his first race in the Senior Rotax Max Class. Despite awful weather conditions he claimed two third places in the heats as well as setting the fastest lap in his class. In the final, he started fifth, but battled through the pack into second place.

In the Junior Blue class, Ryan Edgecombe, 12, also a student at Axe Valley, claimed a win and a second and third place in the heats.

Despite a difficult final in tricky driving conditions, he managed to finish on the podium in third place. Celebrating his highest-ever finish in a final, Ellis was understandably pleased with the result: “It was brilliant! Despite the conditions, I managed to drive a clean race and get ahead of the pack. To get a trophy in my first senior race is more than I could hope for”.
