Qualified for sprint championships

Thirteen local swimmers from Chard Swimming Club qualified for and competed at the South West Regional Sprint Championships at Gloucester last weekend, writes Hannah Pullinger.
To qualify for this event swimmers had to achieve South West Counties Regional Qualifying times and taken part in the Regional Championships earlier this year.
Swimmers competed in 50m sprints in all four strokes and 100m I/M during the day, and Jake Hallam, Abi Dare, Madeline Ryder and Luke van den Barselaar all achieved top three positions overall in their age groups.
Top positions in the individual races went to Jake Hallam in 50m fly,50m breast and 100m IM; Abi Dare 50m back; Luke van den Barselaar 50m free; Tessa Down 50m breast.
Second places went to Luke van den Barselaar 50m back and 50m fly, and third places to Hannah Pullinger 50m breast, Elisha Hawkins 50m breast and 100m IM, Madeline Ryder 50m free and 100m IM, Jodie Hake 50m fly, Abi Dare 50m breast.
Other swimmers gaining top eight positions in their races were Jamie Pullinger, and Ben Fowler.
Melissa Hanson, Joe Spurway and Lauren Harrison also competed, achieving many personal best times.
