There's rain. heavy rain, deluge rain, Welsh rain and there's runners' rain!

Combine with runners' mud and runners' cold wind and we have a perfect mix for the gruelling seven mile multi-terrain race “The Inca trail” organised by Yeovil Town Running Club.

Pleasant it was not, but Richard Hale was pleased with a time of 1hr 36 seconds, which gave him 24th place and 1st OAP over 60.

Later he journeyed on to Wales to buy the firework rockets which will start this year's Nightrunner race, on March 26, off with a bang. Further Nightrunner race details on the AVR website www.axevalleyrunners.org.uk

?At the weekend, Liam Roberts raced in the BUCS (British University and Colleges Sports) cross-country championships for the University of Birmingham.

Liam took part in the B race as, with the top six from each Uni entered in the A race, and the fastest Birmingham runners being of international standard, there was never much chance of making it in!

The race was won by Carl Smith of the Uni of Birmingham in 28:20. Liam covered the hilly course, which was advertised at 8km, but measured by GPS at 8.6km, in 31:00 finishing 46th out of 284.

While his strength lies in road running, this is a solid improvement from last year's finish of 96th in the same race and he will be looking for some good results in his last couple of cross-country races of this season.

?The first three finishers in February’s Junior handicap all broke their PBs.

First was Alex McLoughlin in 17:28, followed by Max Bowskill, 17:25; Josh Coates third, 13:49; Emily Elliott fourth, 14:20 and Matthew Morbey fifth, 13:22.

It must have been a good night for running as all the top five seniors broke their PB’s as well.

Beth Sibley destroyed her PB by two mins winning in 32:42. Sharon Rooke was second, 28:16; Alison Bowskill third, 27:52; Rebecca Creese fourth 28:12 and Tim Sibley fifth, 25:17.
