The final weekend of the Somerset Age Groups proved to be yet another triumphant weekend for Chard and District Swimming Club writes Steph Hallam.

The final weekend of the Somerset Age Groups, held on the 14th - 15th March 2009 proved to be yet another triumphant weekend for Chard and District Swimming Club writes Steph Hallam. Tessa Down, 11, swam exceptionally well and gained a win in the 50m breaststroke for the 11 years old age group, which was well deserved. Throughout February and March, swimmers have been able to accumulate points within individual age groups and strokes to give them positions for the British Age Group Categories, known as BAGCATs.Trophies were awarded to six of the Chard and District Swimmers who achieved top eight positions. 10 years boy's age group, Jamie Pullinger (3rd) Paul Harrison (8th). 10 years girl's age group, Elsie Emery (7th). 11 years girls' age group, Tessa Down (2nd) and Lauren Harrison (4th). 12 years boys' age group, Daniel Walker (3rd) . There were some outstanding performances from the following swimmers who achieved a total of nine South West Counties Qualifying times: Jamie Pullinger; 10, 2-43-61, in the 200m freestyle and 3-05-06 in the 200m individual medley (10 years and under club record). Daniel Walker; 12, 2-21-00 in the 200m freestyle (12 years and under club record) and 2-41-21 in the 200m individual medley (12 years and under club record) Jake Hallam, 13; 2-36-41 in the 200m individual medley. Beckie Rutherford, 14, 33-57 and Saskia Osborne, 16, 33-83 (both in the 50m backstroke). Madeline Ryder, 13b 2-18-47 (14 years and under club record) and Luke Lawrence, 19b 1-56-84 (both in the 200m freestyle). Both Jack Fish and Chris Harrison achieved a South West Counties Consideration time in the 50m freestyle: Fish, 15, 26.78 and Harrison, 16, 26.66.Other club records were awarded to: 50m backstroke: Oliver Bilbie 38-94 (10 years and under), Abigail Dare 35-89 (12 years and under). 200m individual medley: Elsie Emery 2-58-36 (10 years and under) and 50m breaststroke: Daniel Walker 36-72 (12 years and under).Three Swimmers achieved Silver speed badges by swimming under 36 seconds for the very first time in the 50m freestyle event.
