Reed performs well at North Wales Triathlon

AVR athlete Luke Reed continued his journey around the UK participating in Triathlons, this time travelling to Llandudno, North Wales, writes Dave Mutter

The race was a qualification race for the ITU World champs at Sprint distance; 750m swim 20k bike and 5k run.

The swim was in the sea which happened to be rife with jellyfish – it’s a shame Luke didn’t know this before, he may have swam a bit faster!

As it was he was pleased to finish it in 12.55. Onto the bike and after a 500m run through transition Luke found himself on a hilly bike course, not unlike to the hills of East Devon which Luke powered through to complete in 35.38.

Finally the run; Luke gave it everything to complete the 5k course in 19.06, giving him an overall time of 1:10:56 and 93rd place overall, but only five minutes behind the leader.

This result left Luke in 20th place for his age group, so he will have to wait until next year to try and qualify to race for GB at the sprint distance.
