For no obvious reason the September stableford proved a relatively low scoring affair, writes Richard Jackman.

That is, except for a brilliant 39 points by Division One winner Brian Rees who romped home, four clear of Simon Harris and David Lyon who finished in that order on countback. Division Two was won by the ever-improving Nic Snape with 35 points and Les Bounds just taking second place from Mark Lewis, both 33 points, on countback.

The course was packed full on Monday morning for a shotgun start in the Max Thorner Trophy, a four ball better ball competition won by the form man David Hickman and George Yorke with 47 points.

The midweek stableford saw Stuart Wight just pip the weekend winner, Brian Rees, both scoring an impressive 41 points to both finish five points clear of John Toates in third place. In a closely contested ladies October medal, Division One was won on countback by Jean Jolley, nett 73, from Melissa McMahon with Anne Humphreys third with a 74. In Division Two Kate Helm’s nett 72 was the lowest score of the day and won it, with Jean Falconer second on 75 and Corinne Jones third with 77.
