AVR members, the Bramley family thought it would be a good wheeze to run in some races a little further from home than normal, so off they trotted to Southern Germany, writes Dave Mutter.

There, on a perfect autumn day, Roger completed the Munich Marathon in a superb time of 3:47, 2049th out of approx. 7,500 runners.

Young Hanna finished the 10k in 50 minutes, fourth in her age group while mum Crista finished the 10k in an hour and nine minutes.

Slightly nearer to East Devon Graham Newton ran the Mendip Muddle, a 20k race of pure off road joy. The route took the runners through woodlands, along river banks and over the Mendip Hills and far away. Graham was pleased to finish 70th out of a field of 300 in 1:48:14, winning the over 60 male vet prize.
