Chard Rugby Football Club are delighted to introduce John Williams as their new chairman taking them into the summer preparation for the new season.

John will replace Gavin Smillie who stepped down after three years in the chairman’s role and will now be looking to support the club in other ways.

Gavin said he was delighted that John had taken on the role and was confident that with the strong committee, coaching staff and players Chard will be able to be competitive in the coming season and would continue to support grass roots rugby and the Chard Community.

John Williams, a long-time supporter of Chard RFC and former managing director of green roofing specialist Blackdown Greenroofs, is still kept busy with consultantcy and development work and also supports The Kotu Trust, a small charity which helps support children in The Gambia.

Of his new role John says: “Chard RFC is a great club with a terrific history of encouraging, nurturing and harnessing local rugby talent.

“It’s a big challenge for both myself and the committee to continue to improve and develop these qualities and expectations.

“We intend to give it more than our best shot.”
