Honiton Musketeers 29, Taunton 12

Honiton Musketeers Under-13s continued their recent run of good form with an impressive win against Taunton, writes Ben Lee.

The Somerset side came in to the game having already beaten Devon sides Cullompton and Ivybridge and started well, opening the scoring early in the first half, but that proved to be the only score of a half in which both defences dominated proceedings. Guy Maynard was exceptional for Musketeers, knocking down all that came his way!

After the break Honiton used the slop to their advantage. They began to break tackles and use their off-loading skills to get the scoreboard rolling. Dan Phillips helped himself to a quick-fire hat-trick, showing great pace to outrun the Taunton defence. Ryan Woollacott capitalised on a mistake to run in from the twenty-two and wing Tom Foster showed his juggling skills before racing in to complete the Honiton scoring.

Taunton finished strongly and scored seconds before the final whistle.

Great credit must go to the Musketeers front five who really dug in against a strong Taunton pack. Man of the Match was jointly awarded to Maynard, who set the tone of the day with his strong tackling, and flanker Luke Bralsford who had a hand in most of the Honiton tries and was a constant thorn in the side of the Taunton half-backs.
