Honiton Tigers roar loudly in unbeaten visit to Exeter Saracens

Honiton Under-9 Tigers travelled to Exeter with just 12 players for matched against hosts Exeter Saracens.

Despite the low numbers the Tigers certainly delivered some superb rugby and won three of the four matches that they played – and the other was drawn so they remained unbeaten on the day!

The first game ended all square with both sides scoring eight times each. Tyler Patch and Ewan Powers-Maguire both scored a hat-trick of tries and the other two came from Finley Backhouse and Alfie Hutchinson-Pike.

Game two saw Honiton win 9-4 and this time Powers-Maguire crossed the home line five times. Patch bagged two more and there were single tries from Backhouse and Sam Gray.

The third encounter saw Honiton win 9-4 with Tom Phillips (4), Robert Hennessy (3) and Harvey Hannay (2), the try scorers.

The fourth and final game saw Honiton win 8-6 and this time Hennessy went one better scoring four tries, Phillips got three more and Hannay also crossed the Saracens line.

IN games one and two it was Sam Gray that picked up the Tigers’ Man of the Match award for his all-round contribution and, in games three and four the Man of the Match award went to Jake Carter who was outstanding in the scrum half role.
