Honiton Tigers Under-7s do well in series of matches at Exmouth

Honiton Tigers Under-7s won two, drew two and lost two in a series of well-contested matches at Exmouth, writes Jon Hannay.

The Tigers travelled with 12 players and it was agreed with Exmouth that the games would be five a side as they had 20 players. This was a new experience for the visitors, but they equipped themselves well.

Group one consisted of Tyler Patch, Finley Backhouse, Charlie Pickering, Harrison Griffiths, Dylan Burrough and Alexander Goody.

They shone throughout their games with some brilliant tries shared amongst all the players but it was their defence which thrilled the coaches as time and time again during matches Exmouth couldn’t get through.

In the end Honiton won two and drew one of the three games they played.

Tom Phillips, Robert Hennessy, Harvey Hannay, Ewan Powers-Maguire, Dylan Burrough, Daniel Al-Sedani and Jake Downs made up the second group and while there were some great individual tries their defending was not up to scratch and resulted in drawing one game and losing the other two.

Coach Jon Hannay said: “There are areas we need to help the players improve on but they are still having fun which is the main thing.”

The Tigers’ final match of a successful 2013 is at home to Topsham and is followed by a Christmas party.
