Honiton Tigers Under-8s ended the year with a win and three defeats when they welcomed Teignmouth to Northcote Lane on Sunday.

The hosts had a squad of 20 from which to choose so loaned the visitors’ five players to ensure everyone got playing time.

Ewan Powers-Maguire scored a hat-trick in a thrilling 12-8 defeat in one game. Tom Phillips (2), Tyler Patch, Henry Devin and Alfie Terry scored the others while on loan Harvey Hannay (2), Dylan Burrough and Josias Drew notched for Teignmouth.

Hannay (2) and Burrough (2) were also on the score sheet again as the visitors claimed a 13-9 win in their second game.

Tries were shared amongst most of the Honiton side and came from Finley Backhouse (2), Harry Kent, Harry Madge, Jake Giles, Jake Downs, Jake Carter, Charlie Pickering and CJ Nequest.

Backhouse notched a treble as the hosts were edged out 8-7 in game three. Robert Hennessy (2), Giles and Kent got the others in a match which could have gone either way.

A 6-3 success ensured the Tigers didn’t endure a disappointing day as Phillips (2), Dylan White, Patch, Devin and Powers-Maguire scored the tries to earn the win.

Massive thanks to Ian and Jack Madge, Paul Drew and Jason Powers-Maguire for helping out Adam Kent in the absence of the Tigers’ usual coaches. Without their help or support the fixture wouldn’t have been played.
