Honiton Under-10s entertained Brixham for two closely contested matches in some glorious Allhallows Sunday sunshine, writes Luke Owen.
With injuries and illness affecting selection, the Lacelads were forced to make changes, but managed to come out on top in the first encounter thanks to some a tireless Harrison Lawson led defence and some exceptional running from Sam Foster. It was Foster who combined with Joe Evans down the blind side to score the try of the match, before Evans added two more and Tim Goody rounded things off as Honiton secured a 20-15 triumph.
The second match was another tight affair with the Lacelads defending for long periods and Lawson once again dominating the ruck and maul with his strength. However, the pressure soon told and Brixham powered over for a couple of scores which saw the Lacelads having to chase the game. Once again the superior numbers of the opposition told and, despite Evans scoring a hat-trick of tries, it was the Fisherman who edged it 25-15.
All in all it was a great team performance and the Man of the Match award was shared between Sam Foster for his powerful running with ball in hand and Harrison Lawson who was a rock in the Lacelads defence.
In addition, the match also saw Elizabeth Huskins make her debut and it is always good to see new players enjoying the game of rugby.
On Saturday the youngsters travel to face a very strong Withycombe side.
