Honiton Under-16s push powerful Newquay Hornets all the way

Newquay 29, Honiton 14
Honiton Under-16s were beaten in Cornwall, but not before they had given a thoroughly good account of themselves.
The hosts began swiftly and scored in the early exchanges. Parity was swiftly restored when a great run down the wing from Jordon Roe Lavery saw him score and Harry Wright then slotted the conversion.
The two teams then serve dup an outstanding end-to-end contest. Honiton were next to score with Richy Webber crashing over, Wright again converted and the Lacemen led 14-5. Newquay came back strongly and a converted try sent the sides into the break with Honiton holding a 14-12 lead.
The second half saw Honiton playing up a very wet and sticky pitch. Newquay were able to use the slope to their advantage and, after a period of excellent defence from both outfits, the hosts scored again to take the lead.
Tired legs became evident as the slope took its toll and two further tries were added by the home side to complete the scoring.
Honiton can certainly hold their heads very high after this performance. The Newquay Hornets reputation of being ‘Cornwall’s finest’ remains intact, but for long periods the young Lacemen were their equals and the return in East Devon is already eagerly anticipated!
The Honiton Man of the Match award went to Usamah Elmaghady for his sterling defence throughout the match.
