Honiton seconds made the difficult trip down to play Exmouth on Saturday and travelled with the bare 15 as injuries and unavailability’s were rife this week, writes Tom Churchward.

Even with a full squad it would have been a big ask to get a result and so true to form Honiton went down by 29-0, but it was a spirited performance and there was a lot of credit to those who played.

Honiton started brightly, but skipper Tom Churchward had to depart with an injury which reduced Honiton to 14 men and the home side capitalised on this scoring two tries through their big pack. Honiton woes got worse when Dave Wellington had to leave the field with a hamstring injury and Honiton were down to 13. Exmouth to their credit did lend Honiton a play which helped but Honiton were down by 22 points at the break!

The second half saw Honiton rally and they only conceded one try in this period and this despite losing another casualty, this time it was Reece McGrath who twisted his ankle. The end result was as stated an inevitable defeat but there was a lot of pride on show as Honiton dug deep to keep the score respectable. There was a special for both Ben Logan and Kyle Blackmore who are Colts who stepped into play and Kyle even ended up as Honiton’s Man of the Match.
