After missing the last four games due to the weather, the Honiton Under-9s Hawks boys were itching to get back into action on Sunday morning when they entertained Tiverton.

The Hawks had a squad of nine players – Arran Hansford, Byron Chalmers, Harry Haysom, Liam Webber, Logan Symons, Miles Salter, Taylor Prettejohn, Will Parris and, making his Hawks debut, Elliot Arscott.

Sadly, Kyle Moore had to pull out having felt unwell during the warm-up.

Tiverton had similar numbers, so a 20 minutes each way game of seven-a-side with rolling substitutions was played.

Both teams contributed to a competitive game. Each side defended well with some excellent tackling, forcing the opposing attacking team to go through several phases of play.

The tries scored by each team were hard earned. In the end, the Hawks’ better ball retention and off-loading accuracy saw them come through with a 12 tries to seven success.

The Hawks’ Best Effort award went to Liam Webber as reward for another fine display of tackling defence, some good hard straight running in attack and a try.
