Exmouth Under-13s were leading 52-5 when the referee called an early halt to proceedings in their Devon Cup meeting with Honiton.
The young Cockles were quickly into their stride and they ran in five first half tries from Ben Dawson, Richard Forrest, Vinnie Neath Rogers, Luke Davis and Harry Sprague.
All but one of the tries were successfully converted by the faithful boot of Dawson.
Coach Mike Sprague rang the changes at half-time to give everyone who started on the bench a run-out. This, predictably, unsettled things for a while and Honiton took advantage to score a try.
The Cockles were quickly back onto the front foot and scrum half Stewart Masters spun the ball out to Dawson who showed a clean pair of heels to the Honiton defenders.
With confidence restored Exmouth were soon adding to the score with masters displaying excellent footballing skills to hack the ball on. He appeared to be pulled back by the shirt when the ball didn’t bounce kindly for him, but Owen Tidball was making his customary support run and he gathered to the ball before wriggling over the line.
The match was brought to an early conclusion after Dawson broke from midfield to score again.
The Cockles Man of The Match award went to Luke Davis who was relentless in defence and showed great imagination in attack causing Honiton many problems.
