Honiton seconds entertained pedigree rivals Exmouth on Saturday in the league and with results invariably going the seasiders way, this was always going to be a tough encounter, writes Tom Churchward.

Exmouth typically showed their intent with an early touch down and things looked rather ominous, but credit where credit is due, the Lacemen rallied and whilst not looking threatening, they defended well throughout the half.

Despite this resolute defence they did concede another score and went into the break 10-0 down.

In the second half it was a different matter with the Lacemen looking a lot more dangerous throughout and, with dominance in the scrums, they had plenty of possession.

Unfortunately, they just couldn’t score and, to add to their wows, the visitors weathered the storm and scored again to put the game beyond reach.

Honiton gave a good account of themselves and put up a stern test for the visitors and for those watching what was an entertaining game.

New-comer Joe Townsend continues to impress and he was Honiton’s Man of the Match.
