Like for every team playing in the Devon and Exeter football league, this season has been a different one for Awliscombe FC, playing this season in the Division 3 East along with other local east Devon sides.
After the third national lockdown, Awliscombe’s league was reduced from an original 11 teams down to a final seven, with some having to withdraw from the league for a number of reasons. Even though there was a reduction in teams within the league, Awliscombe had a very positive season and finished comfortably in third position, seven points clear of fourth position.
Awliscombe’s final record in the league for the 2020-21 season was P12 W7 D1 L4. They scored 28 goals and conceded 22.
New signing Joe Mulhall led the way in the goal scoring charts, with 18 league goals from only 12 appearances, ending up as not only the club’s top goal scorer but also the highest scorer in the league.
Awliscombe football club would like to extend a huge thank you to Mike Dent and Chris Manley of Denleys, who are the new sponsors of the club’s kit. The sponsorship not only allowed the club to purchase a new kit but also invest in new training wear and training equipment, and the support they have shown was greatly appreciated.
All the team have been brilliant, especially with the Covid restrictions that have been in place this year, and they can reflect on a positive season on the pitch.
If there are any players who are interested in playing for Awliscombe or just trying out training, please check out the Awliscombe FC Facebook page for more details on how to get involved.
As well as Lapford narrowly defeating Lyme Regis in the Premier Division Play-Off Final, there were two more games last weekend to complete the Devon & Exeter League season.
Exmouth Rovers rounded off an impressive campaign with a ruthless 6-2 defeat of Dunkeswell Rovers in Division 1 East, while HT Dons triumphed 2-1 at Lympstone in Division 4 East.
