Seaton gave their D Division promotion bid the perfect boost as they beat Ashburton by 90 runs and then learnt of a surprise defeat for rivals Shaldon at Halberton and Sampford Peverell.

Nick Beedell top scored with 57 whilst Mark Bray (34), Mike Wheeler (31) and Joe Berry (36) all chipped in towards the closing total of 242-8. When the visitors bated Phil Collins claimed 3-25 whilst Joe Berry (2-23), skipper Ben Morgan (2-32) and Ben Libby (2-38) also took wickets as the final wicket fell on 152.

The victory and that surprise result in Mid Devon means Morgan’s men sit two points behind Shaldon who they play next in South Devon on Saturday.

Seaton follow the Shaldon game with matches against the current bottom two, Feniton (home) and Countess Wear (away), so what is crystal clear is that Saturday’s trip to South Devon is going to be the one in terms of the Seaton bid to start next season back in the C Division.
